THe BNSF Railroad travels along the east side of the Mississippi in Wisconsin. Crossing shows the bridge over the St. Croix River at Prescott Wisconsin.
The bridge was built in 1984 and averages 40 trains per day. Its center section lifts to let tall boats, typically sailboats through. It is 18 feet wide and 615 feet long. It sits 20 feet above the rivers normal level. It is located approximately 0.2 miles upstream from the Mississippi.
The Wisconsin side contains a sharp curve where you can see the engines comming across head on without violating any railroad rules or putting yourself at risk.
The St. Croix River is known in the Dakota language as Hoġan Wanḳe Kin
